A Retro Network PSA

relayed and edited from https://www.belkin.com/support-article/?articleNum=335419

After "careful consideration," we have made the difficult decision to end technical support for older Wemo products, effective January 31, 2026. After this date, several Wemo products will no longer be controllable through the Wemo app. Any features that rely on cloud connectivity, including remote access and voice assistant integrations, will no longer work.

Over the last decade, since Belkin first launched Wemo in 2011, we’ve been committed to providing consumers with innovative, simple-to-use accessories for a seamless smart home experience. However, as technology evolves, we must focus our resources on different parts of the Belkin business.

We acknowledge and deeply appreciate the support and enthusiasm for Wemo over the last several years. We are proud of what we’ve accomplished in the smart home space and are grateful to our customers for welcoming Wemo into their homes.

We "understand" this change may disrupt your routines, and we "sincerely apologize" for the inconvenience.

Apple Homekit enabled Wemos are not affected

For Non Homekit Wemos there is still a way to use them!

You will have to Install a open source program called pywemo And if you want Google Home or Amazon Alexa support back you will need to Setup an Home Assistant* instance with a Matter Hub addon

*Units already setup with home assistant will still work after shutdown

**Wemo Zigbee products will still work, however you need to transfer them to a universal Zigbee hub or use Home assistant with a Zigbee usb Radio

Update Jan 31st

Someone came in clutch and developed an GUI version of pywemo called PyWeMoGUI
Main window on the Setup WeMo tab

You can thank the subreddit r/wemo for comming up with this tool!

For Android Users. An other way to manage wemo's is via an upcomming app called AutomationManager

As an major anti planned obsolescence supporter my sincerest apologies go out to those that are effected by CORPORATE GREED

I would also want to wish the comunity maintainers of pywemo and Home Assistant  a big thanks and good luck maintaining these open source projects.  You are the true heros against planned obsolescence!

Side note for Bose soundtouch users. They are also Shutting down their servers

(shutdown date is May 6, 2026) but Bose has helped the loyal users out by updating their app to have local product setup and also released the complete API of the Soundtouch units here So you just have to wait until some open source project comes out!
